ASK THE TECH--WIPER BLADES

Q: How long do wiper blades last?

A: With each pass across the windshield, the rubber on the wipers wears down, and pits begin to form. The blade needs replacement about every six months while the windshield wiper arms average about five to six years. You know it is time to replace the blades as soon as streaks start to appear on your window.  You can make your wipers last longer by removing tough stains like bird droppings or dirt with water and removing ice and snow by hand with a scraper. Ice and snow especially create holes in your wipers.  Another tip is to lift the wipers away from the car overnight when you are expecting snowy or icy weather.
