ASK THE TECH--FUEL ADDITIVES

Q: What do fuel additives really do?

A: Fuel additives are compounds formulated to enhance the quality and efficiency of the fuels used in motor vehicles. There are a few advantages to using a fuel additive.  Increasing the fuel efficiency of your vehicle is one,  Some fuel additives can boost the octane level of the gasoline, providing the engine with more power from the same amount of gas. The end result is the ability to travel further on gas infused with additives than would be possible otherwise. Additionally, additives can prevent the buildup of sludge and other deposits in different areas of the engine. Because there is less buildup in the lines and many of the moving parts on the motor, less stress is placed on the engine during operation, effectively prolonging the life of the vehicle.  This means less wear and tear on the moving parts, which translates into lower and less frequent repairs during the life of the car or truck.  If you do choose to use an additive we would recommend one that is a cleaner rather than a performance enhancer and you should use it every 3000-6000 miles, or with every oil change.  We offer three different types of additives, ask us about them on your next visit.
