Q: My manual talks about severe driving. Would I be classified as a severe driver?
A: Contrary to popular belief, most people would be considered severe drivers in today's conditions. Severe driving does not mean fast driving, dusty roads, or acting like the Dukes of Hazzard. Severe driving would include:
• Stop and go traffic
• Short trips that last under 10 minutes
• Starting your car several times a day after the engine has cooled.
• Driving in temperatures over 90 degrees or under 40 degrees.
• Towing a boat or trailer
While the last may not apply to you, I would bet you drive in stop and go traffic and take frequent trips to the store and run errands.
As a severe driver remember that this affects your maintenance schedules as well as oil changes recommended from the manufacture. If it recommends 6000 mile interval for regular driving you would cut it in half to 3000 for "severe" driving. Same with synthetic, 10,000 would become 5,000
