Ask the Tech--How does hot weather affect my car

Q: How does hot weather affect my car?
A:  Actually most vehicle are designed to handle the heat well.  That being said there are a few items you want to keep an eye out for.
·         Battery and charging system.  Believe it or not, you actually have a higher chance of losing a charge in your battery during the summer months than in the winter.
·         Tires. Be sure to check your tire pressure, sun can increase the pressure in your tire.  You do not want to drive on overinflated tires, as that reduces the surface area making contact with the road.
·         Fluids. You will want to make sure to check your fluids and maintain your regular maintenance schedule.
Interior.  Vinyl dashboards and leather seats can take a beating thanks to intense sun rays.  You can combat this by either tinting you windows or using a sun shade.
