Q: Why do my headlights seem so much dimmer then they were
before?
A: Besides having a bulb out, a main reason headlights
seem to be less bright is oxidation. Oxidation occurs naturally and is a build up of loose oxygen electrons
that are attracted to the surface of the headlight. As oxidation occurs it can create an
absorbent surface layer that will trap road debris such as gas and oil. These
additional contaminants can turn the surface from white to yellow to brown as
the oxygenated surface solidifies into a hard outer coating. This can best be corrected by using a
Deoxidizer to restore the surface. This
is something that we can take care of for you next time you are in for
service. Seeing and being seen is so
important as the days start to get shorter and the weather starts to become
more rainy. Increasing your visibility
by restoring your headlights can help keep you safe. Next time you are in, as us about checking
your headlights to see if they can be restored.
