Did you know you shouldn't drive to the end of your
fuel? Do you why.
Besides the inconvenience of possibly running out of gas and
being stranded, or the danger of causing an accident when your vehicle dies in
the middle of the road, there are a few mechanical issue that can occur as
well.
The gasoline acts like a coolant for the electric fuel-pump
motor, so when you run very low, this allows the pump to suck in air, which
creates heat and can cause the fuel pump to wear prematurely and potentially
fail. The repair could end up costing a couple hundred dollars to fix. Additionally, if there is dirt in the fuel
tank, it could lead to blocking the fuel filter another costly repair. Try to keep your gas tank no less than 1/4
full, especially in the winter when inclement weather can affect the length of
time your normal drive can take. Also,
don't rely on your vehicle to tell you how many miles you have left, as those numbers can be deceiving and run down
quickly, depending on how you drive.
